We start early, by transposing beginner songs (such as Mary Had a Little Lamb, or Snake Charmer, or Twinkle) into all the many keys, adding chords. There are lots of sharps in the intermediate level of My Heart Will Go On! If kids haven't yet played in the key of E, they need a bit of preparation, in my opinion. There is lots of helpful fingering throughout the piece.īoth left and right hands make use of a stretched broken chord pattern I call the "broken chord stretch." With my students, we build up from the most basic of chord patterns to harder patterns that require more hand coordination.Īt my "Mary Had a Little Lamb" page, you can see that metamorphosis.
